Sligth disappointment - here comes the RICE

Well this is going to be a short blog tonight, just a brief update. I have a slight disappointment in the plans for the upcoming race (Wicked 10) -- I hurt my foot/ankle yesterday. At my visit with an orthopedic specialist I learned that I will not be running for 6-8 weeks. I have a bi-lateral foot/ankle sprain. So, for tonight that is all I can and will say. I'll be home for the next few days keeping my foot elevated and iced.

So, I may fit in some blogging time. I have a few blogs in mind; a book review of a running book I just finished, my thoughts about running with music, some history on Black women runners, and now some info on foot injuries and how to have a healthy come back.

A Goal Has Been Set - Oct. 31, 2009

Today I registared for a new race, and when I say new I mean NEW. This is the first annual WICKED 10K - with the same organizers as the Shamrock 8K that I do yearly. The race has almost filled up so I'm glad I got things in order to make it in time, I anticipate this race getting larger and larger with each year.

This event will be a nice addition to the races I run yearly. A 6.2 mile fall run - is a great way to wrap up my summer training before I go into hibernation on the treadmill for the winter. After the Labor Day half marathon I was really anxious to do another half marathon but since I didn't train that well I figured this would be the perfect compromise. If anyone is joining in let me know... I could make a quick training plan for the month.

Oh, I do have one concern... the weather. I DO NOT like running cold races, so lets all hope that it will be a mild fall day. BTW... if any one struggles with Raynaud's like I do please share what works for you in the winter (I'm always looking for ways to avoid the discomforts of winter).

For $10 you can have 2 weeks access to this full class "Yoga For Athletes" online

This instructor, Sage Rountree, is well known for her books The Athlete's Guide to Yoga and The Athlete's Pocket Guide to Yoga, she is a leader in the industry. BEST thing is that you can have access to the course as much as you want for 14 days for the cost of $10.

I'm so happy that we were able to come together have such a great time running in yesterday's Va Bch Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon. It was a 1st for some of us and I hope NOT the last for any of us. I've been online since last night looking at our finishing times, up and coming races, and different articles related to the race. I discovered that someone did collapse during the race and was pronounced dead some time afterward. While my intent is NOT to put a damper on the event I do want us to appreciate our bodies, especially in this recovery stage and as we train for the next event. I will follow-up with some links that may assist in our recovery (Marye I want your knee to be in great shape for the NY marathon).

Sorry, Marye is not in this photo...she had to leave early but please note that means she was WAY ahead of me! :)

with love and many miles to run
